Single with Purpose

New Walk Church, South Plainfield NJ | Tuesday, November 3, 2026

When You Are the Only Single One in the Room

Maybe you know the feeling. Everyone at the table seems to have a spouse, a date, or a plan. Holidays are coming, and you can already feel the pressure building.

Here is the good news. Your life is not on hold. God sees you, God loves you, and God has a purpose for you right now.

Singleness Is Not Second Place

The apostle Paul was single, and he did not treat it as a problem to fix. He wrote, "I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that" (1 Corinthians 7:7, NIV).

Paul also saw an opportunity in this season: "An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs, how he can please the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:32, NIV). Singleness can be a time of deep devotion, freedom to serve, and growth in your walk with Jesus. It is not a waiting room. It is a place where God is at work.

You Belong in the Family of God

Loneliness can be one of the hardest parts of single life. God answers that need in a beautiful way. Scripture says, "God sets the lonely in families" (Psalm 68:6, NIV). One of the main ways He does that is through His Church.

As an Assemblies of God church, New Walk holds to the 16 Fundamental Truths. Fundamental Truth 10, The Church and Its Mission, teaches that "the Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, which are written in heaven."

Did you catch that? Each believer is an integral part. You. Paul put it simply: "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it" (1 Corinthians 12:27, NIV). And together we are "being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit" (Ephesians 2:22, NIV). The Church needs your gifts, your prayers, and your friendship.

A Message for This Season

In the message "Your Ultimate Guide to Singleness, Marriage, and Divorce in 1 Corinthians 7" (watch it here), we walked through what 1 Corinthians 7 teaches about singleness, marriage, and divorce, including celebrating singleness as a gift from God and finding contentment and peace in your current season.

Three Practical Steps

1. Give your season to God. Tell Him honestly what you hope for and what you fear. Then choose to trust Him with the timing. "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4, NIV).

2. Get connected, not isolated. Do not wait for a spouse to start building community. Come to worship, join a prayer night, and share a meal with other believers. "Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another" (Hebrews 10:24 to 25, NIV).

3. Serve with your freedom. Pick one way to use your time and gifts for others this month: serve on a Sunday team, mentor a young person, or help a neighbor in need. As you give yourself to God's mission, you will find what Paul found: "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances" (Philippians 4:11, NIV).

A Prayer for Singles

Lord, thank You that You see me and You know my heart. You know my hopes, my questions, and the lonely moments. Help me believe that my life has purpose right now, in this season. Teach me to find my worth in You and not in my relationship status. Surround me with a church family where I can belong, grow, and serve. Guard my heart, guide my steps, and use me to love others well. If I have never given You my life, I do it now. I turn from my sin, I believe Jesus died for me and rose again, and I receive Him as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.

1. Entrega tu etapa a Dios.

2. Conéctate, no te aísles.
