As we approach this week, I know there is a lot of events going on: work routines, house chores, school, etc. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and forget about the amazing experience we had at church on Sunday. It’s easy to forget to pray, spend time in God’s word, and serve others. I want to take a moment to share with you the words of Paul. In his letter to the congregation in Corinth, he instructs them to stand true to what they believe in despite the pressure they have in their lives. Lets break it down together:
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” -1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on guard:
Paul knew that there were people and things that could potentially provide obstacles for the congregation in Corinth. The same can be said for us; there are many things that can distract us in our Christian walk. Regardless of what is going on in your life, leave no room for Satan and his deception. There is ALWAYS time for God and the things of God- let us not become overwhelmed with the things of this world and lose track of what really matters.
Stand firm in the faith:
I used the NIV translation of this verse simply because I love the word firm. Jesus is our firm foundation, and with him as our foundation, nothing in our lives can shake us away from the love of God. This command simply means to stand firm in the truth of God’s word and the reality of his truths. Jesus Christ did all the work for us, leaving us without the need to earn God. His grace is sufficient. All the obstacles we face in life should not distract us from the faith we have in God’s truth and promises. Our joy is in Him!
Be Courageous and Strong:
Paul knew that the congregation in Corinth were going to face difficult times; Paul himself was faced with many difficult times and faced many obstacles. He was instructing them to be brave in their lives and their faith and not to let anything impact them more than God. With the Holy Spirit in our lives, we can be brave and tackle anything in our lives head-on. When we are weak, HE IS STRONG. In life, it’s easy to become weakened by the fast-paced, high demand lifestyle that our society demands. Let us all find our strength in Christ and stand by the true teaching of His Gospel.
I hope this motivates the start of your week!
As always and for forever,
I love you guys.
