Maybe you know the feeling of sitting in a waiting room with a clipboard on your lap, or lying awake at night wondering what the test results will say. Maybe it is your own body that is hurting, or maybe it is someone you love. Sickness has a way of making the days feel long and the future feel uncertain.
If that is where you are today, you are not forgotten. God sees you in the hospital bed, in the pharmacy line, and in the quiet hours when the pain will not let you sleep. He cares about your body, your heart, and your family.
"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." (Psalm 27:14, NIV)
Everywhere Jesus went, He made room for hurting people. He touched lepers, opened blind eyes, and raised up those who could not walk. Matthew tells us that He healed all who were ill, "to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases'" (Matthew 8:17, NIV).
Long before Jesus came, the prophet saw what His suffering would accomplish: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5, NIV). At the cross, Jesus dealt with our sin and our brokenness. That is why we can come to Him with confidence when we are sick.
In the New Walk message "Healing Through Humble Prayer" (watch it here), the title itself points us to where healing begins. We do not earn healing by being strong. We come to God humbly, honest about our need. God told His people, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV).
Humble prayer is not giving up. It is giving it over. It says, "Lord, I cannot fix this on my own, but I trust You." And when the waiting is hard, God gives grace for each day. The apostle Paul heard the Lord say, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV).
As an Assemblies of God church, New Walk holds to the 16 Fundamental Truths. Fundamental Truth 12, Divine Healing, teaches that "divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers."
So we pray for the sick with faith and expectation. We also thank God for doctors, nurses, and medicine, which can be part of how He cares for us. Keep following your doctor's care while you keep trusting the Lord. Sometimes healing comes quickly, sometimes it comes slowly, and sometimes we wait to see it fully in eternity. In every case, God is good, and He is with you.
1. Ask for prayer. You were never meant to carry sickness alone. "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up" (James 5:14 and 15, NIV). Come to church and let us pray with you.
2. Let others in. "Pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective" (James 5:16, NIV). Tell one trusted friend what you are facing, accept help with meals or rides, and let your church family stand with you.
3. Feed your hope every day. Read one healing promise each morning and say it out loud. Start with this one: "Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (Isaiah 40:31, NIV). Thank God for every small sign of progress.
Father, You see my body and You know my pain. I humble myself before You and ask You to heal me. By the wounds of Jesus, bring healing to my body, peace to my mind, and strength to my family. Guide my doctors and give me patience in the waiting. When I feel weak, let Your grace be enough for me. If I have never given my life to You, I do that now. I turn from my sin, I believe Jesus died for me and rose again, and I receive Him as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.
You do not have to wait alone. You are welcome at New Walk Church, 3121 Park Avenue, South Plainfield NJ. Come as you are, and let us pray with you and stand with you in faith. Our Tuesday night is a special time of prayer, and we would be honored to pray for you or someone you love.

(Salmos 27:14, RVR1960)
Padre, Tú ves mi cuerpo y conoces mi dolor.
